Switching careers can prove to be very difficult especially when you are getting out of your comfort zone. For some, it can be just a change of interest and for others, it might actually be a calling. For some of our Kenyan celebrities, I think it’s safe to say that this transition is more of a “new experience” rather than a calling but hey, that’s just me.

For some, like a few on the list below, it actually turned out great. Unfortunately, some like Bahati, failed miserably at the beginning of the race.

Here are some of the Kenyan celebrities that have transitioned well into politics.

    1. Jaguar

Charles Njagua Kanyi, popularly known to his fans as Jaguar has served his fellow Kenyans as the Starehe Member of Parliament although he lost the race in the just concluded elections. He however tried to defend his set as an independent candidate but was not successful. He however served well during his term.

    2. John Kiarie (KJ)

John Kiarie aka KJ has been one of the funniest comedians Kenya has brought up to the extent that if you told me he would one day thrive in politics, I would think it ridiculous… get it? If you are a 90s guy, I know you did. He has been the Dagoretti South Member of Parliament for five years, and has recently won the tightly contested Parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket. Clearly he was meant for this all along.

    3. DNG

Kenyan hype-man, musician, radio presenter and founder/CEO of 254 Digital Entertainment, and now MCA elect of Woodley Kenyatta Golf Course Ward, won the seat on a UDA ticket. Oh, and this was just on his first try in politics. Way to go DNG.

    4. Jalang’o

Phelix Odiwuor, comedian, actor, master of ceremonies, radio presenter, philanthropist… you know what, whatever else you’re thinking, he’s probably done it I’m sure. This Jack of all trades has added another feather on his cap. He is now the Langata Member of Parliament after winning the seat in the just concluded elections. What will he be next, I have no clue.

    5. Eko Dydda

Gospel artist Eko Dydda just bagged the Mathare North MCA seat on his first attempt at politics and for him, he claims that it is actually a calling and that it was made for him. Well, we are eager to see just what he will accomplish and we are proud of his win.
